Wednesday Devo

Read Luke 6:46-49 and Matthew 7:2o-29. When we combine the similar passage from Matthew 7 we see that it is possible to both call Jesus Lord and do amazing works (even miracles) in his name and not be a true disciple. Jesus has just spent some time discussing a love that sounds so foreign to us. This chapter contained phrases like, "love your enemies", "do good to those who hate you", "give to everyone who ask you", "don't judge", and "forgive everyone". That is the foundation Jesus speaks of in verse 48.

questions
1) what are some of the "torrents" that shake your love for others? (things that annoy you)
2) what "good works" do we sometimes think are more important to God than our love for others?
3) what qualities does it take to build a good foundation on the rock rather than on the sand?
(really spend some time thinking about this one - chew on it all day!)

prayer
Lord - I'm lazy with love sometimes - Lord forgive me. You are an incredible example. You loved me while I was a sinner. You knew and know everything bad about me and you keep loving me. You know the sin I will commit next and you love me. Let me love with your heart.
