Friday Devo

Read Luke 8:4-15. Today I want you to read this quickly once and then pray - "Lord speak to me in this passage - I want to be more like you." Read the passage again at a snails pace looking for words that stick out for the first time. Really spend time on each word - it may take 3-5 minutes to get through just reading. In our fast pace world we are seriously lacking - "deep" people who stop and reflect - meditate on the word. If you're a Christian you have the Holy Spirit in you. He is like a flash in your soul - seeking areas yet redeemed.

One comment on verse 10 that may help. Some struggle with the idea that God doesn't want some to see. The whole point of Jesus quoting this Old Testament verse is to show that most simply come for the show. They don't seriously want to understand the deeper truth of what Jesus is saying so it can transform their life. Their parents sent them to see Jesus or its just where the crowd were, or maybe Jesus would do a miracle today.

There are still "secrets of the Kingdom." You can tell when  you are with someone who doesn't simply know about the Lord - but knows the Lord - walks with him. Jeremiah 29:13 says, "you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." The Lord longs to be discovered but the reality is most are comforted just getting enough Jesus to get them through the week.

questions
1) As you read very slowly the 2nd time - what words stuck out to you that you had never noticed before or they had new emphasis?
2) How do some of those words or phrases apply to you right now?

prayer
Just speak your heart to God today! Tell him how much you love - try to express it verbally to him!
