Monday Devo

Read Luke 8:16-25.  Remember Luke is not writing chronologically, but topically as we read these verses. Notice they all speak of connecting faith with action. We can't say we have a lamp and the light of God in us and not let it be seen. We can't claim to be God's family unless we put his words into practice. And when the storms of life come we'll really figure out if what we believe matches what we do.

James said, "faith by itself - if it is not accompanied by action is worthless." If we claim to be a Christian - that is great - but how do we spend our money. Do we tithe? Our actions will reveal our heart. If we say we are a Christian do we serve God with our time and gifts each week? Our actions will reveal our heart. Do we truly try to step outside our comfort zone and let other's know about God? Our actions will reveal our heart.

questions
1) Would you consider yourself and active Christian or a passive Christian? Why?
2) What areas of your life do you wish you had more boldness in - where you know you should sacrifice more?
3) Think through great men of faith in the Bible (Hebrews 11 is full of them) how did God stretch their faith? How might he be trying to stretch yours in this season of your life?

prayer

Father - thank you that Jesus was so faithful. We have such a model to follow - a big brother who was fearless for you. A man whose values were lived out for everyone to see. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus better. Let us throw off the things that are weighing us down and the sin that is like a spider web. This week, Lord - may my actions speak louder than my words!
